Dr. Fernandez is a board-eligibile neuropsychologist in private practice with expertise in differential diagnosis of Learning Disorders, ADHD, Autism, and Psychosis among other neurodevelopmental disorders. She is a supervising psychologist in the PEERS clinic at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and a lecturer in the CSUN Michael D. Eisner College of Education. Dr. Fernandez obtained her undergraduate degree at Yale University and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Houston, where she conducted research on structural differences in the brains of children with dyslexia. She completed her internship and postdoctoral training at the UCLA Semel Institute. As a recipient of the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Health, Dr. Fernandez studied language and neurocognitive functioning in young adults with schizophrenia. Her current areas of specialty include neuropsychological assessment, Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE), individualized social skills training using the UCLA PEERS model, and consultation to mental health professionals. Although her primary population includes children and adolescents, Dr. Fernandez has a particular interest in working with transitional aged youth (up to 25+). Finally, Dr. Fernandez is bilingual (English/Spanish) and her assessments are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
