Our Mission

At ChildNEXUS.com, our passion is ensuring that families have the information they need to make informed decisions when seeking mental health and educational services for their children. Our goal is to help connect families with qualified providers, and to help professionals better connect with each other in an attempt to facilitate integrative care.

We are committed to creating a digital platform for parents and professionals that is much more than a typical website. ChildNEXUS.com is a community of neuropsychological, behavioral, medical, and educational professionals dedicated to providing high quality care and educational support to children and adolescents. Our mission is to improve the lives of children and adolescents struggling with learning, processing and social-emotional challenges.

Our Pledge

We are cognizant of the issues that arise with finding providers online. Thus, it is our pledge to ensure that providers on the site possess the appropriate credentials necessary to provide the services they list. We have staff on hand to ensure that these standards are met through appropriate vetting.

We are committed to disseminating information based on scientific evidence and information from professionals with years of experience assessing, treating and supporting children and adolescents. It is our hope that this information will be helpful to parents searching for answers and guidance, and that parents will use the information found on ChildNEXUS.com in an effort to participate more effectively in their children’s growth and development, and in doing so, help their children reach their full potential.

13%

About 13 percent of all public school students receive special education services. Data suggests that an additional 15% or more of students struggle due to unidentified and unaddressed learning and attention issues.

20%

Over 20 percent of children have some type of diagnosable mental health problem in the first 18 years of their lives, and most of them never receive services. For example, the lifetime prevalence of having an anxiety disorder in childhood or adolescence is between 15 and 20 percent.

44-59%

In children with psychological or neurodevelopmental disorders, there is an increased risk for having one or more additional disorders. For example, approximately 44-59% of children with ADHD have another psychiatric disorder (e.g., an anxiety disorder). The presence of two or more disorders is associated with more difficulties and a higher persistence of symptoms into adulthood.

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2017, ChildNEXUS.com connects parents and their children with clinicians, therapists and educational professionals who specialize in the assessment, treatment and support of children and adolescents struggling with learning, processing, neurodevelopmental and social-emotional difficulties.

Founder

Dr. Karen Wilson is the founder of ChildNEXUS, Inc.  She is a clinical neuropsychologist, with a private practice in Los Angeles, California, where she specializes in the neuropsychological assessment of children and adolescents. Dr. Wilson is also an Assistant Clinical Professor (Voluntary) in the Medical Psychology Assessment Center (MPAC), at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Dr. Wilson’s inspiration to create ChildNEXUS.com stemmed from her experience as a professional in the field of neuropsychology. After conducting evaluations to determine the nature of a child’s struggles, Dr. Wilson often has to provide parents with resources, and connect them with professionals who can provide specialized care (e.g., language therapy for a child with autism, memory support for a child with a developmental delay, educational therapy for a child with dyslexia). Dr. Wilson found that once a child’s issues were identified, parents often needed more than one referral, and a child frequently needed services from at least two providers (e.g., a language therapist and an educational therapist, a behavioral therapist and a psychiatrist, or an occupational therapist and a family therapist). Dr. Wilson decided to use the information she had accumulated over 17 years of conducting assessments, and working with families and other professionals, to launch ChildNEXUS.com, which aims to dispel myths about issues related to pediatric mental health, disseminate information, and help parents make informed decisions when choosing providers for their children. She also wanted to help professionals provide better care and educational support by facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations between specialists.

Dr. Karen Wilson has shared her expertise in a broad range of media outlets.  She is a sought after expert speaker and has been invited to address a multitude of audiences, including parenting groups, educators, and professionals attending national conferences.  She has been recognized by California State University, Dominguez Hills as an exceptional scholar and educator who is among the most distinguished experts in her field.   Dr. Wilson has collaborated and formed close relationships with colleagues, leading to both personal and professional enrichment.

Dr. Wilson lives in Culver City, California with her husband, Alfonzo, and her two young children, Tuesday and Wade. She loves spending time with family, traveling, and enjoying good food and music.
