I am dedicated and enthusiastic about providing cutting edge neuropsychological assessments to children, teens, and young adults to help them realize their potential and succeed! Private practice, teaching trainees as a volunteer Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and being the lead creator and author of "Beyond the Label" published by Oxford University Press are some of my tools in my "life kit" in helping parents and their children thrive!
Besides the areas of specialization listed on this website, I also assess students including young adults who are referred subsequent to or in the process of being diagnosed with the following conditions: memory disorders, processing disorders, neurotoxin exposure(s), in utero toxin exposure(s), selective mutism, seizure disorder(s), scuba diving illnesses, cognitive and social-emotional changes due to surgery, substance abuse disorders, high cognitive ability profiles (also known as "gifted" youth), genetic conditions, brain changes due to COVID-19 illness. In addition, a focus of my practice has been identifying evidence-based educational accommodations for those students (the young and those in their adult years) with assessment confirming disorders and disabilities to level the playing field so that he/she can show what they know when taking a test and when learning new things in the classroom. My book, "Beyond the Label" dove deeply into this area of study, which I encourage you to read if you think your child is not learning at the rate of their peers, managing stress well, and/or is encountering challenges socially.
I am happily married to my husband, Scott, who is also the office administrator and manages the scheduling, etc. at Golden State Neuropsychology. We are the proud parents of our beloved daughter, Grace, a Golden Retriever puppy, a Frenchie puppy, and our incredible aquatic zoo of fish! As a family, we love to travel and engage in outdoor activities such as scuba diving, hiking, swimming, fishing, skiing, and playing with our dogs! Dr. "Karen" also enjoys cooking, reading, and being the very proud mother of Grace!
